URBAN AGRICULTURE SPOTLIGHT: A Discussion with Will Allen
Join the Women's Environmental Institute (WEI) and East Phillips Neighborhood Institute (EPNI) for a neighborhood meet and greet with Will Allen, renowned Urban Farmer and mentor, on Thursday, December 19th, from 5-7pm at the East Phillips Community Cultural Center (2307 17th Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN).
At 5:30pm, Will is going to give an overview of the various urban farming initiatives he’s worked on over the decades. Kieran and Forest of EPNI’s outdoor farm team will host a Q&A session with Will after the event.
Will Allen has long been a supporter of urban farming efforts across the Phillips Neighborhoods: working closely with Little Earth of United Tribe to launch the Little Earth Urban Farm in 2006; supporting the development of Mashkiikii Gitigan farm on the 24th St. Corridor; helping Nawayee Center School with its on-site hoop house and garden farm; and training aspiring farmers at the annual "Will Allen Farmer Training" event at WEI’s Amador Hill Farm for the last 16 years. This year, Will has been collaborating with WEI and EPNI on an application for a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant that, if granted, would help launch large scale aquaponics and community composting projects for the East Phillips Urban Farm project at the Roof Depot site.
We are seeking community input and collaboration! A brief Q&A will be moderated by Kieran and Forest of EPNI’s Outdoor Farm Team. Light dinner plus coffee, tea, and hot cider will be served.
We hope you can join us!
