Carrying On

While the powers that be remain committed to the exploitation of people and land in order to fuel profits for the ultra wealthy few, in East Phillips we’re committed to a very different vision for our collective future.

Right now, working class people prop up an economy designed to benefit those at the top. But by converting the contested Roof Depot warehouse into an indoor urban farm and community hub, we envision a localized economy that props up the people instead.

How? By recycling everything from rainwater to food waste, supporting small business ventures inside the building, and redistributing excess profit through a community ownership model crafted by pro-bono legal advisors with input from community leaders and elders.

This decade-long fight for environmental repair and economic justice in East Phillips hasn't been easy, and we’ve faced plenty of obstacles from those committed to a bogus status quo. Regardless, we’re in it for the long haul and will keep building with our neighbors toward a better future for tomorrow and for generations to come.

Now is a powerful moment to plug into established local organizing efforts with tangible impacts in any way you’re able. If you have time, mentorship, resources or skills to contribute, we welcome you to join us! Fill out this form to get in touch and learn more about our communications, fundraising, outreach and farm teams.

Or come chat with us tonight (November 8th) at the East Phillips Community Garden (2428 17th Ave S, Minneapolis), where we’ll be harvesting kale and tending to a fire from 4-6pm (maybe ending later if the vibes are right).

You can also support this project with a donation! This winter, we’re working with our neighbors on designing climate-resilient infrastructure, including a cooperatively-owned rooftop solar array and a rainwater collection system. Make a contribution and know that any amount makes a difference. We’ll also mail you a cool poster when you do.

We look forward to the next few decades of dreaming and scheming a better world together. 💓
